Saudi Arabia’s premier banking institution has delivered a robust financial performance, demonstrating resilience and growth across key metrics. The institution reported a first-quarter net profit of .8 billion, reflecting a 14.3% increase year-on-year and underlining the strength of its core operations throughout the period.
The three-month period ending March 31 proved particularly fruitful, with the bank supported by higher operating income and sustained financing expansion across retail and corporate segments. Operating income climbed 1.1% sequentially, whilst year-over-year expansion reached 14.4%, signalling consistent momentum across its diversified revenue streams.
Shareholder returns strengthened considerably, with total comprehensive income attributable to shareholders rising 8.54% year-on-year to reach $1.68 billion. The institution’s balance sheet expanded modestly, with total assets increasing 3% to $280 billion. Shareholders’ equity, excluding minority interests, grew by 13.83% to reach $40.66 billion, reflecting the bank’s ongoing commitment to capital strength.
Per-share earnings climbed from $0.38 in the prior-year quarter to $0.42, reflecting improving profitability at the individual investor level. The bank’s financing and investment income surged 18.4% year-on-year, driven by higher returns on core lending and investment activities. This growth was bolstered by both volume expansion and improved pricing across the portfolio.
Cost management remained a focal point, with operating expenses rising 18.2% due to increased general and administrative outlays and elevated salary-related expenditures reflecting competitive labour markets. Despite these headwinds, investor confidence remained steady, with share price appreciation of 0.28% reflecting measured optimism around the bank’s prospects.
The bank’s regional standing continues to strengthen, maintaining its position as the third most valuable company across the Middle East according to the latest Forbes rankings. Its chairman’s estimated net worth of $2.6 billion places him firmly among the world’s wealthiest Arab investors. These results affirm the institution’s strategic positioning within the Gulf’s dynamic financial landscape, emphasising the region’s capacity for resilience and growth.
